Aaron Akugbo & Tom Pritchard
Hailing from Edinburgh, Nigerian-Scottish trumpeter Aaron Akugbo has already worked with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the UK, and made his London debut in 2020 playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with Chineke! at the Royal Festival Hall. He is joined for this exuberant performance by award-winning young percussionist Tom Pritchard—a rare and special opportunity to hear from two rising stars of British music.
Akugbo brings a wide-ranging musical taste to his artistry and, despite being classically trained, cites Louis Armstrong as his biggest musical inspiration. These eclectic influences radiate from the programme he and Pritchard have devised, with arrangements of Schumann and Mahler complementing pieces composed by Pritchard especially for the duo, and music by pioneering African American composer Florence Price. Allow yourself to be spellbound by this fabulous performance as the captivating tones of trumpet and percussion soar to the rafters of the cathedral!
