De Profundis
Evoking a subterranean world, we venture deep into Scotland’s coal-mining heritage in this immersive work of epic proportions. Set in the breathtaking surroundings of Glasgow’s medieval cathedral, late at night, De Profundis draws together massed brass bands, narrators and atmospheric electronics, filling the murky gloom: an awe-inspiring, powerful tribute to the lives and music of Scottish miners.
The brainchild of John Wallace & Svend McEwan-Brown, this unique event sees renowned brass ensemble The Wallace Collection joined by the cooperation band and the Renfrew Burgh Band. As you walk through the misty gloaming, threading between groups of musicians scattered around the cathedral’s imposing stone pillars, you’ll be enveloped by haunting Gaelic psalm tunes, poems and birdsong, and transported by the immense might and depth of this profound, multi-ensemble performance.
